Everything about boosting your Euro2, Euro4, Euro5 and electric scooters

We'll tell you all about it boosting your scooter: The different techniques to give your Euro2, Euro4 or Euro5 scooter more power, the benefits of boosting and preventing problems during an inspection.

Speed up your scooter: speed according to Dutch law

Chinese Upgrade Euro2 scooter up to and including year of manufacture 2017.

Dutch law prescribes that a moped may not travel faster than 45 km per hour, and a moped no faster than 25 km per hour. (a moped scooter may measure 34 km GPS/a moped 54 km GPS measured, the odometer reading on your odometer deviates at least 5 km upwards) Since these rules do not exist in the country of origin of most scooters, these scooters are driven in original is a lot faster.
Before they can be sold in the Netherlands, adjustments must be made to limit the speed.

When a scooter accelerates, this limitation is reversed so that it reaches a higher speed.  This can be done by inserting another CD. The CDI is available in a fixed speed, or can be switched between different speeds using a remote control.

Positive consequences of boosting your scooter

The main purpose of boosting a scooter is of course to make it go faster. However, staging still has a number of advantages.

Lower fuel consumption

In the case of a 4-stroke scooter, fuel consumption can be significantly reduced. It is quite common that driving is more than 20% more economical. With injection engines this difference can be even higher.

Improved lifespan

Because combustion becomes more efficient, there will be less pollution in the engine block. This will ensure that performance remains optimal for longer. The spark plug and drive belt also experience less wear. Boosting a scooter therefore benefits its lifespan. An engine has to withstand a lot, especially in the 25 km setting, even more so than in the 60 km setting.

How does boosting a scooter work?

There are several options for boosting a scooter. This partly depends on the type of scooter. Euro 2 scooters are often only limited by one Permanent and a vario ring. In that case, removing the vario ring (usually not present on Chinese scooters) and replacing the CDI is sufficient to delimit the scooter. (IMPORTANT; the limiting wire/pulse encoder wire must be connected, otherwise the CDI measures 0 revs, and the CDI thinks that you are standing still, so that the CDI does not receive a command to limit)

How does a CDI work?

A CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) regulates inflammation. The fuel enters the cylinder and is detonated by a spark from the spark plug. The CDI ensures that a spark occurs at exactly the right time, ensuring optimal combustion and performance.

A CDI also determines the maximum speed and is therefore often used as a limiter. CDIs are available for speeds of 25km, 35km and 45km per hour. There are also CDI units where there is no limitation at all. And there are also CDs with remote control, allowing you to switch between 2 speeds. For example between 25/35 – 25-45 – 25-65 – 32-45 – 32-65. All these different CDs are available in our webshop. Check carefully whether you have a 10 or 12 inch wheel. This can be read on your tape.

Euro 4 & Euro 5 scooter boost

Scooters that meet the Euro 4&5 standards (all scooters produced after January 1, 2018) no longer use a CDI, but work with one ECU/Speed converter module. Boosting these models works in a different way.

How does an ECU work?

The abbreviation ECU stands for Electronic Control Unit. This is a minicomputer that is responsible for the injection and ignition of injection engines. The limitation of Euro4 scooters is controlled by the software that the ECU unit uses.

There are several ways to boost scooters that work with an ECU. This depends on the make and model of scooter and which ECU is in your scooter.

There are 5 brands of ECUs;  Dellorto RongmaoDelphiMotion en RED. With some models it is a matter of replacing the ECU, and if you want to switch between 2 speeds, you must use a speed converter for EURO 4 engines.

Euro 4&5 ECU speed converters

When using a speed converter, it is important that your scooter is NOT tuned up. If this is the case, it will first have to be made original again. This system works together with the original ECU and will not function on already upgraded models.
The initial speed of the scooter will always be the speed at which the ECU is programmed. An example; Have you purchased a scooter from the dealer and already had it boosted to 45 km per hour? You then install a speed converter of 25 and unlimited. The result will then be that you will drive scooter 45 without limits due to the previous adjustment of the ECU.

Speed converters are available in different variants where you can switch between:

  • 25 km/h and 45 km/h
  • 25 km/h and unlimited
  • 45 km/h and unlimited

For ECUs equipped with the Rongmao system, 2 free adapters are included for easy connection.

Enter Euro5 scooters:

The Euro2021 scooters were released in 5, and at the beginning of 2021 there is still a lot of old stock from 2020 available. When selling, you are often told that you have purchased a EURO5 scooter, but this is often not the case. The speed converter for Rongmao ECU EFI System, which works on La Souris and Senzo, among others, on Euro4 and Euro5. E. The maximum speed of a 25&unlimited speed converter with a Senzo Euro5 is a maximum of 55 km per hour.

For example, the BTC Riva was never released in EURO5, it was changed to the EURO5 standard after the name; BTC Felice. Importers have responded to this by purchasing a lot of stock in 2020, because the scooters have become a lot more expensive to purchase in 2021 due to the catalyst that had to be added. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to determine which standard your scooter has. We have special euro5 speed converters developed for this scooter equipped with a MOTION ECU.

On us Youtube Channel There are various videos explaining the installation of speed converters.

Boost your Euro2, Euro4 & Euro5 scooter using a sports exhaust“AKRAPOVIC STYLE” QeXtreme

Boosting the performance by means of a fast exhaust gives a large power gain for 2-stroke scooters. We still remember the brands such as;  LeoVince Gianelli of Polini yet. With a 4-stroke scooter it only gives a small power gain, such as exhausts from the Technigas 4scoot and Jamarcol brands. Euro5 scooters after January 2021 are equipped with a catalyst in the exhaust to meet the Euro5 environmental standards. We have had a special exhaust developed that can be installed on Euro4 & Euro5 scooters without a catalyst. The Qextreme exhaust also has a very sporty “AKRAPOVIC STYLE” full black design. The exhaust is specially made for all Chinese Vespa Look a Like models such as the BTC Riva, La Souris Sourini all versions, Senzo Rivalux, AGM VX50, GTS Toscana, Riva Fast, Killerbee VXL, and many other models with a GY6 engine, such as Kymco and Sym. The exhaust is unique of its kind because there is a connection for the lambda sensor to be mounted in it. Click on the link for more information: Sportuitlaat

Step up Electric scooter.

Is your electric scooter not going fast enough? China Scooter parts has the solution for this. We were of course the first in the Netherlands to develop a box with a remote control that allows you to switch between the original speed and the fast mode. Via this link you will find everything you need to boost your electric scooter with BOSCH motor and BOSCH controller. This has been specially developed for the Q Crystal Bosch 3000W. If you do not have a BOSCH engine or a Q Crystal/Sport or Nipponia Volty, this system will not work on your scooter.

Speed and Dutch law

The Netherlands has a number of strict rules that scooters must comply with. For example, a moped scooter or moped may not travel faster than 25 km per hour, the construction speed for a moped scooter may not exceed 34 GPS measured speed. Do not drive a moped or moped faster than 45 km per hour, but the construction speed is 54 km per hour before you receive a WOK notification. Although you are not allowed to drive your scooter faster than 25 or 45, the construction speed may be faster before you receive a WOK notification from the RDW.

Prevent risks resulting from staging during inspection

As you probably already understood, boosting your scooter is quite prohibited. If your scooter turns out to be driving too fast during a roller tire check, you will receive a boete on. You also run the risk of a WOK (Waiting for Inspection) status, which means that you are no longer allowed to drive your scooter until it has been re-inspected by the RDW. This joke easily costs 300 to 400 euros in total.

How fast is a scooter/moped allowed to drive according to the law/

A moped scooter is allowed maximum 34KM GPS riding on the roller bench.

A moped is allowed maximum 54km GPS riding on the roller bench.

Speed limiter

Fortunately, there are options to ensure that your scooter simply drives the permitted maximum speed during a check. Chinascooterparts.nl sells CDIs with remote control with which you can activate the speed limiter again at the touch of a button. This system is also available for ECUs that work in combination with a converter. Because the limitation is active when the scooter is started, it will be neatly limited to the permitted speed on the roller bench.
And for Piaggio and Vespa Power Commanders with remote control.
